BPI Expands Research Team with 3 New Hires

Washington, D.C. – The Bank Policy Institute today announced the hiring of three new members of its Research team, which publishes academic-quality research on key public policy issues affecting  the banking sector. Evan Sekeris and Daniel Grodzicki will each join BPI in the role of Senior Vice President, Senior Economist. Laurence (Laurie) Bristow will be a Vice President and Research Associate. Evan will start at BPI today, July 21; Daniel and Laurie will start in September.

“Evan, Daniel and Laurie bring economic rigor, intellectual curiosity and a diverse range of experience from central banking, regulatory agencies, major banks and academia,” said Chief Economist Bill Nelson. “Their depth of economic and policy expertise will equip them to amplify BPI’s research capacity and capability. We are thrilled to bring them on board.”

Evan Sekeris joins BPI from Capital One, where he served as Chief Model Risk Officer. In that role, he oversaw model risk management in compliance with regulatory expectations. Prior to Capital One, Evan worked at MUFG, PNC, Oliver Wyman and the Federal Reserve Banks of Richmond and Boston. He also previously served as an associate professor at Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and a staff researcher in the UCLA Department of Surgery. Evan holds a PhD from UCLA and an M.A. and B.A. from Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. At BPI, he will play a leading role in capital research, working closely with Head of Capital Advocacy Sarah Flowers.

Daniel Grodzicki most recently served as principal economist at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, where he oversaw the production and development of the National Mortgage Database. Daniel’s previous experience includes roles at the OCC, Penn State University, UPenn, the CFPB and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Daniel earned a PhD and MA from Stanford University, an M.A. and B.A. from Cambridge and a Graduate Diploma in flute performance from Juilliard. He will focus on consumer finance issues in his role at BPI, an area of focus in his previous research.

Laurie Bristow has spent four years at the Reserve Bank of Australia, where he researched housing cycles, financial markets, money markets and banks’ demand for reserve balances. He played a key role in the RBA’s recent redesign of its monetary policy implementation system. Laurie has a B.A. from the University of Queensland.
